The first thing you should do when you are finally set on moving is to call up a mover. But do not call upon just any mover. Make sure your selection of a professional is the right fit. For instance, if your job is taking you halfway across the country and you must pack all of your belongings and head to another state to live, then consider long distance movers. They have loads more experience, pun intended, than in town movers. They know specifically what needs to happen with a long distance move, from packing up items to getting weighed at highway weigh stations.
The second thing to think about when you are in the process of moving is figuring out how you will pack up your things and when you will do so. Can you afford to start doing something like that now, even if your move date is months or perhaps even close to a year away? If you get lucky and can start putting things into boxes and packing up rooms that are used less than others now before later, then think about a storage solution that will get you there. Pods are one such solution. Lots of movers even use them for their own purposes, dropping them off on your property and then picking them up whenever the storage centers are filled with your stuff.
The third thing to consider when moving day is near is to find a new place to live. It is never too early to start doing this, because you never know what the market looks like in your new place. Talking to a real estate agent and looking around online for properties are good places to start. This is the truth whether you will be moving into an apartment for one or a single family home with your kids. Sometimes it is difficult to find that perfect home or place to live in a neighborhood you like with a good school system nearby.
The fourth thing to think about when moving is on the horizon is closing up shop, so to speak, at your current abode and setting it up in the new place. Often, utilities would like several days’ notice and can even work with your schedule to turn service on and off on requested dates. Planning for this earlier rather than later frees you up to focus on the more important aspects of moving as this date approaches.

These are really helpful, so thank you so much for outlining them in a way that I can remember easily. I know there are tons of other things to do too, but these are the big guys.
